Student Intern – Patient Engagement

Advance Care Planning

Location: Remote (Ohio-based applicants only) Commitment: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week

About Steadywell

At Steadywell, we’re unlocking abundance in healthcare by transforming how seriously ill patients are supported. Our digital workforce reduces the cost of care, improves clinical outcomes, and enhances quality of life—all without adding extra work for clinicians. As a student intern, you’ll play a hands-on role in shaping how patients experience care during some of the most important moments of their lives.

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Student Intern to support patients in completing their Advance Care Plans (ACPs). This role is ideal for students interested in healthcare, innovation, or patient engagement who want real-world experience in a fast-paced startup environment. You’ll work directly with patients to guide them through ACP completion, track progress, and ensure that every patient feels supported and understood.

What You’ll Do

  • Patient Outreach: Make phone calls to enroll patients in Steadywell’s program and explain the value of ACPs.
  • ACP Tracking: Maintain and update a list of patients who need to complete their ACP.
  • Progress Monitoring: Proactively monitor patient progress toward ACP completion and follow up as needed.
  • Patient Support: Answer questions about ACPs and provide clear, compassionate guidance (without offering medical advice).
  • Quality Goals: Ensure a 90% ACP completion rate within your assigned patient population.
  • Customer Focus:
    • Build trust and rapport with patients through respectful, empathetic communication.
    • Identify barriers patients face in completing ACPs and suggest improvements to enhance their experience.
    • Represent Steadywell’s mission and values in every interaction.
  • Collaboration: Participate in weekly team meetings and occasional in-person training sessions in Columbus, Ohio.
  • Innovation: Share feedback and ideas to improve Steadywell’s patient engagement platform and workflows.

Qualifications

  • Must live in Ohio or be enrolled in a college/university located in Ohio.
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (healthcare, social sciences, business, or related fields preferred).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable speaking with patients over the phone.
  • Customer-first mindset, with compassion and professionalism in every interaction.
  • Self-motivated, eager to learn, and comfortable in a startup environment.
  • Willingness to speak up when identifying opportunities for process or platform improvement.
  • Reliable internet connection and quiet workspace for remote work.

What You’ll Gain

  • Firsthand experience in patient engagement and healthcare innovation.
  • Skills in patient education, customer experience, communication, and workflow optimization.
  • The opportunity to directly impact patient outcomes by helping them complete critical healthcare documentation.
  • Mentorship and exposure to startup operations in a rapidly growing health tech company.
