As the Director-Life Sciences Investments, this candidate will lead investments, build sustainable relationships, and manage the Rev1 funds that support ground-breaking technologies originating at Rev1’s research institution partners—Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University. In addition to supporting capital for Central Ohio spinouts, this person also has an opportunity to guide life sciences startups post-investment in both advisory capacities and by serving as a Board observer or director to select portfolio companies.
What is the role?
The Director-Life Sciences Investments will work directly with Rev1’s investment and venture development leaders to help advance portfolio companies toward scale or exit. At Rev1, we are collaborative and dedicated to building high-growth companies—and we have the proven methodology and cross-functional expertise that drive results. The Director-Life Sciences Investments will:
- Originate and develop investment opportunities from scouting and early evaluation of life sciences invention disclosures from our research partners.
- Collaborate with colleagues at Rev1 and key opinion leaders to complete due diligence on investment opportunities. Prepare investment memos and presentations.
- Lead deal teams to complete diligence, deal structuring, exit modeling, deal docs, and closings.
- Advise startups on fundraising plans. Build relationships with investors to attract co- and follow-on investments.
- Track portfolio company performance and support quarterly investor reporting.
The Requirements:
- Five or more years of investment and/or technology commercialization experience.
- Experience working with major research institutions, research foundations, corporate development offices, commercialization-focused investors, or with a network of VC investors. Working in the life sciences industry experience is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences discipline or relevant field. An advanced degree in a life sciences discipline is ideal. MBA or similar business experience is also preferred.
- Manage internal and external stakeholders at every step of the investment cycle.
- Working knowledge of valuation techniques and basic financial.
- Experience identifying and securing non-dilutive funding, such as the federal SBIR/STTR and similar state-run programs, is a plus.

- Must be a U.S. citizen or hold a valid work visa that does not require sponsorship in order towork full-time in the United States legally.
- Applicants must be able to work 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, with some night and weekend availability to attend related events. COVID-19 vaccinations are mandatory and are a condition of employment at Rev 1 Ventures. Reasonable accommodations will be considered.
