Key Job Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy backend services and features using Ruby on Rails, owning well-scoped work end-to-end with support from senior engineers.
- Collaborate with product managers, front-end engineers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and turn them into working, tested code.
- Implement features and enhancements for our core platform with attention to performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Participate in code reviews, give and receive constructive feedback, and grow your skills alongside the team.
- Build and expand automated test coverage, and help keep our CI/CD pipelines healthy.
- Troubleshoot and debug production issues, escalating and partnering with the team when needed to keep our backend systems stable.
What Characteristics Are We Looking For?
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical work experience.
- 3+ years of experience in backend software development.
- Proficiency in Ruby and the Ruby on Rails framework.
- Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL), including schema design and writing efficient queries.
- Experience designing and consuming JSON APIs.
- Experience with backend testing frameworks and familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Adaptable, growth-minded, and eager to deepen your expertise in scalable backend systems.
- Thoughtful about performance and reliability, and willing to dig into data to inform your solutions.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, capable of thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Clear communicator who asks good questions and articulates technical decisions and trade-offs.
- Experience with microservices architecture or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Familiarity with message queues or background processing systems (e.g., Redis, Sidekiq).
