The Senior Accountant, Shared Services will manage the monthly general ledger close for North America, working directly with local management to ensure completeness, accuracy and timely submission of the sites financial results in accordance with US GAAP.

This is a dynamic position that will be involved, either directly or in a supporting role, in the end-to-end accounting process and will be expected to identify and drive process improvement. In addition, this role will also be responsible to record certain complex accounting entries.

This position will oversee the work of two employees.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure the monthly close cycle, including financial results submission and supplemental reporting, is in accordance with the worldwide closing calendar
  • Prepare or review month end activities related to: Accounts payable, Unvouchered receipts, accrued expenses, credit cards, payroll, internal and external commissions and prepaid expenses.
  • Embrace continuous improvement concept and continuously look for opportunities to make processes more effective and efficient.
  • Prepare quarterly Balance Sheet fluctuation analysis
  • Manage monthly sales and use tax filings
  • Support sales and use tax audits
  • Implement and ensure continued compliance with Novanta’s global policies and procedures including SOX controls
  • Assist FP&A in the monthly review of financial results with department heads
  • Support internal and external audits

Required Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is desirable.
  • 4-6 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
  • ERP – Oracle and or Intuitive experience preferred.
  • Sales and Use Tax experience preferred
  • Able to operate comfortably at a detailed as well as a strategic level
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • HFM/FCCS experience preferred
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to successfully manage competing priorities
  • Ability to organize and manage mid to long-term accounting related process improvement initiatives
