This position is part of the ATI Industrial Automation business unit within Novanta. ATI is the world-leading engineering-based developer of robotic accessories and robot arm tooling, including Automatic Tool Changers, Multi-Axis Force/Torque Sensing Systems, Utility Couplers, Material Removal Tools, Robotic Collision Sensors, Manual Tool Changers, and Compliance Devices. Since 1989, our team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers has been developing cost-effective, state-of-the-art end-effector products and solutions that improve robotic productivity.

Job Overview

Complete electronic designs for tool changer control modules, material removal products and force torque sensors, involving embedded systems, fieldbus interfaces, low noise strain gage amplifiers, high precision A/D converters and other circuit elements.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead product development projects from the concept phase to manufacturing launch.
  • Write project and product requirements specifications.
  • Communicate technical information clearly and concisely when interfacing with internal and external customers.
  • Architect and design hardware solutions by analyzing the performance and feasibility of alternative hardware concepts using circuit theory and simulations.
  • Implement physical hardware designs by selecting components, capturing schematics, and supervising PCB layouts.
  • Supervise external contractors, work with outside labs.
  • Support the assembly of prototypes by providing documentation and assistance to ensure high quality prototypes are built in a timely manner.
  • Develop and execute hardware design verification test plans per requirements specifications to ensure prototypes meet design requirements.
  • Develop project documentation in accordance with quality and change management procedures and guidelines to ensure project information is properly organized and archived.
  • Provide support for existing and future electrical products and general electronics engineering support for the entire company.
  • Conduct design reviews, participate in, and facilitate DFMEAs.
  • Continue to learn new skills and techniques through in-house training, outside training/coursework, seminars, trade shows and appropriate use of the internet and participate in the training of other members of the engineering team in these skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Previous experience in a position with similar responsibilities is required.
  • Must have developed several products from concept to production.
  • Must have experience with the design for EMI/EMC compliance.
  • Design experience with analog components and circuits, required for the precision measurement of low voltages.
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency in schematic entry using Altium, Orcad Capture or a similar CAD tool.
  • Experience with PCB layout design, ideally using Altium.
  • Knowledge of Python or a similar programming language would be a plus.

Education Requirements:

  • BS in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
