NPI Laser Engineer

Stockport

This role of NPI Laser Engineer is responsible for providing the engineering link between the R&D and production departments. Working on project(s) within the New Product Introduction (NPI) team, the key objectives of the role are to verify design performance, raise any issues/risks, and support the successful transfer of the NPI project into the production environment.

Key Responsibilities:

New Product Introduction (NPI):

• Work with NPI and/or R&D engineer(s) to understand new designs and key technical trade-offs.
• Build, test, and evaluate design elements of NPI laser systems.
• Diagnose issues, develop and evaluate technical solutions (with NPI/R&D support as necessary).
• Develop consistent build/test/soak methods.
• Identify and log risks/issues experienced throughout the NPI process.
• Contribute to defining work requirements within the NPI project schedule.
• Incorporate best practice between company departments into NPI projects.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the NPI process.

Production Transfer:

• Oversee the smooth transition of initial laser systems through production.
• Coordinate activity for the First Article Inspection (FAI) system for quality audit.
• Support the Training Manager to provide training to Lead Product Engineer(s) for First Article Inspection (FAI) systems.

Experience and Skills:

As an ideal candidate for the role of NPI Laser Engineer, we are looking for someone with;

• A minimum of a BSc in Physics or Engineering, or relevant industrial experience.
• Proven understanding of laser physics, with specific knowledge of DPSS laser physics an advantage.
• Proven hand-on experience with laser systems, ideally DPSS, is desirable.
• Appreciation of laser manufacturing techniques and quality processes is an advantage.
• Appreciation of non-linear optics such as harmonic generation is desirable but not essential.
• An understanding of wider engineering disciplines such as electronics, mechanical design, and system control is an advantage.
• Excellent oral communication, technical writing and presentation skills.
• Proactive nature with the ability to motivate others.
• Demonstrates good interpersonal skills.
• Strong logical approach.
