Position Summary

The Senior Research Scientist leads AwareAbility’s activities in gathering, analyzing and interpreting scientific data in a variety of disciplines, and in the development of hardware/software systems to automate these processes. This role requires proven technical skills as a professional one or more of the following fields: nuclear engineering/material science/chemistry, sensors/instrumentation/edge-processing, advanced analytics/data science/machine learning, or related fields. The Senior Research Scientist may work independently or as the supervisor of a technical project team of engineers and technicians.

Location: Columbus Ohio Direct Reports: Up to 5 team members

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day research activities of one or more assigned project areas and act as the company’s primary technical resource for information pertaining to the underlying science and technology.
  • Communicate project progress, goals and milestones through verbal/written reports and presentations to company personnel and to clients.
  • Complete research and development tasks as assigned in mutually agreed goals and objectives.
  • Conduct and supervise research; develop project plans, goals and milestones; write technical reports and create presentations.
  • Work with the Director of Engineering to build collaborative partnerships with potential clients to develop current and future products and services in core business areas.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Candidate should enjoy working in a small company/entrepreneurial atmosphere
  • Knowledge of radioactive materials, literature, safety and related processes required.
  • Working knowledge of computer programming, data analytics and machine learning
  • Working knowledge of common simulation/modeling tools including MATLAB, SolidWorks, MCNP, Geant4, COMSOL or similar
  • Strong leadership, organizational, multi-tasking and problem solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required, including ability to present to all levels
  • Self-motivated and driven to exceed goals, able to work independently with minimal direction
  • Experience in conducting laboratory research and experimentation

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Nuclear Science and Engineering/ Applied physics/Materials Science/Chemistry or one of the other fields specified in the Position Summary is desired; M.S. or B.S. degree with related experience may be considered

Anticipated Project Profile

AwareAbility Technologies needs this Senior Research Scientist to support projects involving Neutron Imaging and Neutron Depth Profiling, novel high efficiency X-Ray source research, and novel semiconductor based nuclear batter research.
